Spirit of the Mountains Retreat and Cabins
are located near Asheville, Brevard,
Hendersonville, DuPont State Forest, and the
Pisgah National
Forest. Situated on a 24 acre private
mountaintop, our gorgeous
NC mountain
luxury cabins are spacious and just a short
drive away from all of the wonderful things
to see and do in the mountains. The scenery,
lifestyle, and beauty of all seasons in the
Western North Carolina Mountains are truly
the primary attractions. Spring brings
a burst of color in the mountains, and
summer presents all sorts of opportunities
for outdoor recreation. The fall is
another explosion of color as the leaves
start to change from the beautiful green
enjoyed during the spring and summer to the
brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows of
autumn. Winter is generally mild, yet
we still enjoy the occasional snowfall which
turns our area into a white wonderland.
Asheville
The
city of Asheville NC is truly one of the
most unique places in all the southeast.
Aside from the beautiful backdrop of the
Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is also
highly recognized on national rankings for a
variety of reasons. It has been named the
best place to live in the country by
Relocate-America, one of 'America's Top
25 Arts Destinations', the 'Happiest City
for Women', and one of the 'Best Places to
Reinvent Your Life'. One of the best known
attractions in Asheville is the Biltmore
House, the largest privately owned home in
America, which attracts more than one
million visitors every year. The Biltmore
House is just one example of the wide
variety of historic architecture in
Asheville. There are many examples of Art
Deco, Neo-Gothic, and Victorian architecture
all throughout the city.
Asheville is also very well known for the
plethora of festivals and cultural events
that take place each year, the most famous
of which is Bele Chere. Bele Chere is the
largest free outdoor street festival in the
Southeast, and is held each July in downtown
Asheville. The three day event usually draws
more than 350,000 people every year, and 80
local and national bands and performers take
the stage to provide first class
entertainment. There are many, many more
arts and crafts tours and Asheville NC
attractions all year long.
Hendersonville
Hendersonville is located just 22 miles
south of Asheville and is another historic
small town with lots of charm. The
area is known for its gentle four season
climate, gorgeous mountain scenery, wide
variety of attractions and things to do, and
our historic and culturally rich heritage.
Hendersonville has been a popular relocation
and vacation destination for well over a
century.
Perhaps the best known attraction in
Hendersonville is the uniquely charming and
beautiful downtown district centered around
historic Main Street. More than 120
specialty shops and dining opportunities are
featured downtown, including art galleries,
folk arts and crafts shops, antique shops,
historical sites, and casual and fine dining
restaurants. Historic Downtown
Hendersonville was entered into the National
Register of Historic Places in 1988, and has
since undergone renovations to revitalize
the area to it's original splendor. The serpentine Main Street is lined with
planter boxes that are always overflowing
with seasonal flowers and trees. It is
also the site of the annual North Carolina
Apple Festival, held during Labor Day
weekend each year. The festival
features a street fair with arts and crafts
vendors, continuous live music, children's
activities, delicious food, a parade, and,
of course, apples of every kind from growers
all over North Carolina. Each year the
street fair takes over 9 blocks of Main
Street and features over 150 vendors from
all over the state.
Brevard
Yet another charming small town near Spirit
of the Mountains is Brevard NC. Brevard is
located in
Transylvania County, known as
"the land of waterfalls". The Pisgah
National Forest and the Dupont State Forest
are located nearby and offer some truly
stunning landscapes, as well as quite a few
unique waterfalls. Just like
its neighbors, Brevard enjoys an ideal four
season climate afforded by the Blue Ridge
Mountains where the town makes its home.
Brevard is also home to plenty of arts,
crafts, and
music activities, including the Brevard
Music Center which has been nurturing the
talents of young musicians for more than 70
years. Every summer, the Music Center hosts
more than 400 students ranging from 14 years
of age to college graduates for seven weeks
of intensive instruction from professional
musicians and distinguished instructors. In
addition, students collaborate with the
faculty and guest artists in more than 80
public performances. The 2008 season will
open with a special event with guest cellist
Yo-Yo Ma. The Brevard Music Center is truly
one of the best ways to enjoy the arts and
culture of our area, as each summer provides
visitors and residents the opportunity to
enjoy some fantastic performances by some
amazingly talented individuals.
Another unique local activity in Brevard is
the White Squirrel Festival, held each May. Each year residents and visitors come to
Brevard to enjoy the Squirrel Box Derby - a
downhill go-cart race, as well as a wide
variety of musical acts, tours, shopping,
face painting, a tennis tournament, and tons
of other exciting activities!
